Well it turns out that not everyone just complains on their blog about not having enough time to be the domestic goddess they so desire to be – some people actually find solutions.
I give you, Once a Month Cooking wives and mommas: HERE, HERE, and HERE.
Over the past few months, I started weekly menu planning, and then menu planning based on grocery store sales, and now it seems it’s time to take the next step!
I’m not sure I could deal with cooking a month’s worth of meals all in one go, but why not a couple of weeks? And as a bonus, The Accountant and I could do it together – crank up the ipod and spend some quality time together preparing the meals. I believe this is what is referred to as a “win-win” – no stressing about getting a meal prepared every weeknight while the clock ticks away our snuggle time, and a block of time set aside for the two of us to rock out together in the kitchen.
The basic concept is that you set aside one day to spend cooking and make a bunch of easily freezable meals that you portion out and freeze for future use. For frugal Fannie bonus points, plan your shopping based on sales and set aside coupons - then you save time and money. I’m loving this idea.
The Accountant and I have a busy weekend coming up (remember how my grandmother is downsizing to an apartment? Well, this weekend is her yard sale!) but maybe on Sunday we could do a mini-run with a big grocery store trip and a few hours spent in the kitchen.
Ah, internets. How did housewives do it before you?

HA! I’m trying to just *cook* at home rather than eat out all the time. Baby steps.

I actually do this to a smaller degree. I cook two meals on Sunday, and that usually provides me with enough lunches and dinners, with only a few supplemental frozen meals/canned soup a week.
When I visit, I will also go over my insane grocery routine that, while it doesn’t save time, saves money AND allows you to buy some extra ice cream or to splurge on delectable berries with chocolate dip almost every week!

twoladies – One step at a time!
Leigh – I am intrigued by your insane grocery routine and look forward to hearing all about it! No grocery routine is worth having if it doesn’t allow for a little fun now and then
