The Baby, that is. The Baby has a box.
It all started with the Charley Harper collection at Old Navy. I was ordering some clothes for myself, and was just too tempted by the the ABC’s and 123′s board books (now sold out at Old Navy – links take you to Amazon). For only $10, I bought the 123′s (The Accountant’s choice!).
Not long after the book arrived, The Accountant and I went to my grandmother’s house. She is in the process of downsizing to an apartment, and so we stopped by to help her sort through decades’ worth of belongings. As a child, I had a room at her house, so some of my old things remained. We found a cute piggy bank, and my old Snuggle (as in Downy fabric softener!) teddy bear in a nightgown that nearly brought tears to my eyes when I found it (remember nightgowns that came with a matching mini one for your doll/teddy bear??). Needless to say, these things came home with us…
So then we had three baby items with no place to put them…and of course I had to go shopping for a Baby Box.
What’s that? You see four, not three items in the box? Read on…
Then of course, since we already had a Baby Box I didn’t think twice about buying an adorable little infant outfit at Target to lift my spirits when I was having a particularly bad week (hey, it was only $10).
Click to enlarge. It says, “Hello little friend.” The cuteness!
The box is now living under the guest bed, and there’s some room inside for more can’t-resist-purchases, but not too much room, so as not to encourage getting out of hand… Remember the perfect crib bedding? That’s too big to fit in the Baby Box – and that, dear readers, was not an accident.

Cute! I got to the future-baby-box point awhile back. Once I filled the box, I packed it away in the closet in an effort not to buy anything else to add to it until we move. But, I still buy the occasional children’s book and I now have quite the stack on my bookshelf…

Joy – Hooray for baby boxes! When I confessed to friends that I had some baby items, I was assured that collecting children’s books is totally acceptable and doesn’t count as putting the stroller before the baby (so to speak), so you fill that bookshelf to your heart’s content!

Love the box! We now have a pile. We went to the Cart.er’s outlet on Saturday and got some things I just couldn’t resist. I stayed at my $50 limit and got some really cute items. I really need to get some bins to start organizing them by sizes. Most of the new stuff was on hangers so they are now hanging in the closet! So cute! I love the box and good thinking on the small size. I also love that bedding! We may have matching nurseries. Who knows though I seem to like everything at this point!

Uh-oh, a box begs to be filled! Good call on getting a small one… I made the mistake of getting a huge plastic tub, and instead of putting it in the closet as planned, I’ve parked it next to our bed, where I see it every day…
I love that you got your Snuggle teddy bear! I had a teddy bear I _named_ Snuggle (after the fabric softener bear), but I didn’t know they ever sold actual Snuggle teddy bears. It’s wonderful to have those childhood touchstones set aside for your future child.

Sam – You don’t have to resist buying things at Car.ter’s – it’s time for that! There isn’t a ton out there for gender-neutral bedding it seems. I really like the idea of doing stripes or polka dots as an alternative to the more “themed” sets – and I’ve been surprised by how few options there are!
thiswillbe – Oh no! Luckily, we didn’t really have the space for a big bin, plus, I had a feeling the smaller the box the better my wife would respond (she’s a little more superstitious about collecting things in advance) – and of course I knew a big box would beg to filled!! Too funny that you had a “Snuggle” too
